Micro-Procurement of Open Source Code Through the Government of Canada Developers Exchange (GCDevExchange)

    March 28, 2018

The Government of Canada Developers Exchange (GCDevExchange) provides an opportunity for teams within the Government of Canada to access a rapid procurement process for contracts <= $10K, and to work with a broad pool of developers who have expertise in open source solutions and are eligible to work in Canada. Building on innovative work by the government of British Columbia, this proof-of-concept trial is a partnership of Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC), Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS) and the Privy Council Office (PCO).

A news release dated February 22, 2018 on buy and sell.gc.ca describes the purpose of this initiative: “By focusing on small-scale opportunities, GCDevExchange hopes to build capacity for agile development through increasing collaboration with small businesses, civic technology groups and entrepreneurs, in a way that adds value and encourages innovation.” GCDevExchange is one of several Government of Canada initiatives underway to make it easier for government and developers to work together on open source solutions.

GCDevExchange uses GitHub as a collaboration tool. For more information, please read the User Guide (wiki). For a list of current opportunities and to provide feedback, go to the Issues section of the Guide. Developers can also sign up on at GCDevExchange website to be notified when new opportunities are posted. For general enquiries regarding the GC Developers Exchange, please contact: consultation@pco-bcp.gc.ca.
