Did You Know? Organization Security Clearances Expire!
Does your company hold an organization security clearance (e.g. a DOS or FSC clearance) with the federal government? Have you kept your organization security clearance current? Unbeknownst to many firms, organization security clearances expire and the expiry timeframe is short. For example, a Designated Organization Screening expires three years after it is granted.
Fortunately, in most cases, clearance renewal is a fairly simple process.
If you don’t know the expiry date of your organization security clearance , contact the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate (CISD) to verify your information. The easiest way to check is as follows:
- Email ssi-iss@tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca
- Quote your organization’s security clearance file number (usually a four or five digit number with two 00s appended – e.g. 12345-00).
- Ask about the expiry date for any organizational clearances that you hold.
Once you know the expiry date, you can contact CISD 30-60 days before your clearance expires to indicate your continued interest in maintaining your security clearance. CISD will guide you through any necessary steps for renewing your clearance.
What if your organization security clearance has expired? The good news is, even if your expiry date has passed you should still be able to renew your clearance. Make sure you contact CISD as soon as possible and following their instructions.
